Baking with Littles
I've always had a passion for baking. In my life Before Kids I even had my own baking side hustle (before side hustle was a colloquial term). Decorated cookies that actually tasted delicious, and not like cardboard, were the most popular item I sold. After having children, it was too time consuming to keep up, but I never lost my love for the craft. Now, I get to share the experience with my daughters, although it's certainly not as calm and peaceful an experience as it once was. It's now only slightly messier, since I was already one of the messiest bakers/cooks ever. Cooking with children is a great way to share love, get messy, have a meaningful sensory experience, talk math and measurement, use fine motor skills...the list goes on. Not to mention, it is just simple, old-fashioned fun. The end result is totally worth the hours of clean up. I always have overripe bananas on hand to bake with, and as far as muffins are concerned, our go-to is the Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins from King Arthur Flour's website. Their recipes never disappoint. I leave out the nuts, cinnamon chips, and butter rum extract, add a little extra mashed banana, and sprinkle mini chocolate chips on top. We can't keep them around very long....they are delicious. Happy Baking!
